New Delhi: Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena orders to complete work by September 15 in Ladakh’s remotest Siachen Base Camp.

The staging point for the world’s highest battlefield would finally have access to the power grid by September 15.

It will pave the way for a significant infrastructure breakthrough in the Union Territory.

This is part of the state government’s three flagship power transmission projects in Ladakh that will link the backward Zanskar and Nubra regions of the UT to the national power grid.

Currently, these regions are mainly reliant on diesel power generation and limited local sources of energy.

189 kms of 220 kV line from Drass to Padum and 79 kms of 220kv line from Phyang to Diskit, along with many new substations, would facilitate round-the-clock electricity supply to the regions.

A spokesperson for the administration said it will help improve not just the physical, clinical, digital, educational, and social infrastructure but also the quality of life for the remote border residents.
