Bhubaneswar: In a major step towards addressing staff shortages in universities across Odisha, the state is preparing to fill more than 1,400 vacant posts, with the recruitment process expected to begin in November.

The issue was discussed in detail at a high-level meeting held at Lok Bhavan under the chairmanship of the Governor. Vice-Chancellors of all universities in the state attended the meeting, along with Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.

The key focus of the meeting was on expediting the recruitment process for over 1,400 posts that have remained vacant in various universities for a long time. The process is expected to begin in November, with efforts to complete the recruitment at the earliest.

Ravenshaw University Vice-Chancellor Professor Arka Kumar Das Mohapatra, while speaking after the meeting, said discussions were held on measures to ensure that the filling up of vacant posts is not delayed further.

According to him, necessary steps will be taken to initiate the recruitment process from November and complete it within the shortest possible time.

Meanwhile, amid ongoing speculation over student union elections in the state, the Ravenshaw University Vice-Chancellor clarified that the issue was not discussed at the high-level meeting.

He said there was no discussion regarding student union or college elections, nor were the Vice-Chancellors asked to give their views on the matter.

The meeting, therefore, primarily focused on vacancies in universities and measures to accelerate the recruitment process. With the exercise expected to begin in November, attention will now be on how quickly the more than 1,400 vacant posts are filled.
