117 eminent Indians and Pakistanis urge PM Modi, Shehbaz Sharif to resume dialogue

New Delhi: A group of 117 notable personalities from India and Pakistan has penned a joint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Premier Shehbaz Sharif.

They appealed to them to take significant steps towards bringing about peace, dialogue, and normal diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The appeal, put forth by the Centre for Peace and Progress, has 61 signatories from India and 56 from Pakistan, encompassing politicians, former diplomats, academia, and social activists.

The signatories state that incessant hostility between the two neighbours is negatively impacting the lives of millions and impeding prospects of peace and economic growth.

The letter asks to reinstate diplomatic ties at full strength, with High Commissioners at their post, normalize the visa regime, and facilitate the resumption of all trade and transportation links.

This call comes amidst heightened India-Pakistan relations due to recent incidents, and the concerned citizens believe ongoing diplomacy is indispensable for peace and stability in the region.
