Woman shot dead as violence breaks out in Manipur, housed burnt

Imphal: A woman was shot dead in Chassad village in Manipur’s Kamjong district on October 9 during night on Friday. She was shot near her neck

After the incident, violence broke out and several houses were reportedly set on fire. Gunfire was also heard in the area.

The woman was identified as Domkhonei Touthang, a mother of five.

The violence continued overnight, and the full extent of the damage to houses was not yet known.

To control the situation, district authorities restricted gatherings of five or more people near the Chassad police gate junction. Police were also directed to provide security in the area.

The Kuki-Zo Women’s Forum had condemned the murder and demanded justice. It also urged the people to stand with the bereaved family.

The incident has reignited fresh concerns about the safety of people in the conflict-hit Manipur.
