7 arrested for beating migrant worker to death over theft suspicion in West Bengal

Kolkata: A brutal incident took place in which a migrant worker was tied up and beaten to death over theft suspicion in 24 Parganas district, West Bengal on Saturday. Under this case 7 people have been arrested.

The incident took place when the Kerala migrant in Bengal went lost in the market and entered a locality which was completely unknown to him.

The residents developed suspect over the man of being a thief as he was a unfamiliar face in the area. The rumours were also spread in the locality saying that the man could be a child kidnapper.

The victim didn’t know the Bengali language and was not able to understand or explain the residents properly of what has happened and why he was there. He was not able to tell them his identity due to the language barrier.

This created communication gap and a group allegedly gathered around and tied the man with a rope and started beating him.

The local Bengal Police was informed about the incident and rushed to the spot to rescue the man. The man was injured severely and was taken to a hospital. He succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

Later, the body was sent for post mortem examination.

As per reports the police have launched an investigation into this matter. The arrested seven are likely to be produced in front of the local court in Bengal.
