Six killed in Houthi attack on cargo ship near Bab Al-Mandeb

Yemen: A cargo ship was attacked near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait near Yemen on Tuesday resulting in six dead and 10 injured.

According to officials, the ship was the Egyptian-owned cargo vessel the Tihamah.

Officials confirmed four crewmen dead in the raid – three Pakistanis and an Indonesian- in addition to two Yemeni rescuers.

Also caught in the crossfire were other crew and rescuers.

Yemeni officials said Houthis were behind the assault, and later Houthi-controlled media identified a military cargo ship carrying Saudi weaponry as the target.

The attack marks the first confirmed deaths from Houthi strikes on commercial shipping since the Iran war began in February, adding fresh concerns over the security of one of the world’s key maritime trade routes
