New Delhi: A political controversy erupted after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge made a remark involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public event in Patna, Bihar, drawing sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The incident occurred at Bapu Sabhagar during a programme commemorating former Bihar Chief Minister Dr Shri Krishna Singh’s birth anniversary.

While Kharge was addressing the gathering and criticising the BJP, RSS and Central Government, a person reportedly interrupted his speech, shouting, “Modi nahi jayega” (Modi will not go).

Responding to the interruption, Kharge reportedly said, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” (Even Modi’s father will go).

A video of the exchange subsequently surfaced, triggering a political controversy.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly condemned the remark, describing it as shameful, disrespectful and inappropriate for a senior political leader.

Shah accused Congress of repeatedly targeting Prime Minister Modi and his family, alleging that the party’s electoral setbacks had led to increasingly objectionable political language.

Other BJP leaders also criticised Kharge, maintaining that political differences should not extend to personal attacks against the Prime Minister’s family.

Meanwhile, Congress defended Kharge, claiming that the remark was an immediate response to a provocative interruption by a BJP worker.

Congress leaders clarified that the reference to Modi’s “father” was ideological, referring to the RSS and its chief Mohan Bhagwat, rather than the Prime Minister’s late father.

The person who reportedly interrupted the speech, identified as Santosh Kumar, later claimed that his statement had been misunderstood.
