Kerala sailor killed after Russian missile attacks cargo ship near Ukraine

New Delhi: A tragic incident took place in which an Indian sailor boarded in a cargo ship was reportedly killed in Russian missile attack near near the Ukrainian city of Odesa.

The victim sailor is identified as 26-year-old Akhil Joyan from Kerala, he was engaged and was going to get married in two months. He was not the only one who died, four Indian crew members lost their lives and one managed to escape death with injuries.

The injured sailor has been taken to a hospital for medical treatment and is undergoing treatment.

The attack took place on July 19 while the cargo ship MV Golden Leo was leaving the Ukrainian port.

Akhil had returned to work only a month ago after his engagement. His family was informed by the shipping company through an email.

The Kerala government is working with the Ministry of External Affairs to bring Akhil’s body back to India.

Further investigation into this matter is underway.
