Far-right pro-Trump ex-gay still-British commentator Milo Yiannopoulous detained by ICE

"Zero immigration for the next 20 years. No ifs, no buts," wrote far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulis on social media last year. Today the Briton was taken into custody by ICE, having allegedly overstayed since last legally entering the county in 2019 and having failed to show up for an immigration hearing.

"He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation's laws," a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security wrote in a statement to media. Yiannopoulos was arrested at New Orleans International Airport on Thursday, they said.

Representatives of Yiannopoulos did not respond to a request for comment. It is unclear whether he has legal representation.

The British national has most recently worked for the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, who is scheduled to perform in New Orleans on Friday evening.

Yiannopoulos is a well-known champion of conservative causes and has frequently taken provocative public positions criticizing feminism, Islam and immigrants. He has been especially supportive of President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown.

Yiannopoulous became a popular figure on the right as a writer at Breitbart in the 2010s, but was marginalized after comments endorsing pedophilia and his relationships with white nationalists were exposed—qualities that might now put wind in the sails of an up-and-coming conservative commentator. He has recently worked as a spokesperson for Hitler-praising rapper Ye.
