Coyote vs. ACME, the forthcoming live-action animated comedy from Warner Bros., ran a strange road to release: shot and animated years ago, it was shelved by WB in 2023 to use as a tax write-off. This led to outrage among those who made it and wanted to watch it. After another year of corporate wrangling, it will finally arrive in theaters on August 28, 2026. Here's the trailer:

That WB thought this couldn't make money at the box office is an interesting thing in its own right. The premise is fantastic and based on a 1990 article in The New Yorker fictionalizing Wile E. Coyote's lawsuit against Acme, the company whose equipment invariably fails him.

Opening Statement of Mr. Harold Schoff, attorney for Mr. Coyote: My client, Mr. Wile E. Coyote, a resident of Arizona and contiguous states, does hereby bring suit for damages against the Acme Company, manufacturer and retail distributor of assorted merchandise, incorporated in Delaware and doing business in every state, district, and territory. Mr. Coyote seeks compensation for personal injuries, loss of business income, and mental suffering caused as a direct result of the actions and/or gross negligence of said company, under Title 15 of the United States Code, Chapter 47, section 2072, subsection (a), relating to product liability.
