6 dead after powerful earthquake strikes Bangladesh; tremors felt in Kolkata

New Delhi, Nov 21: A strong earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck central Bangladesh on Friday morning, killing at least six people and injuring several others, according to local media, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

The quake was felt widely across West Bengal and parts of northeastern India, triggering panic among residents, the Hindustan Times, the tremors “were felt across Kolkata, sending people rushing outdoors as a precaution.

” The report added that several residents described the experience on social media, with one user saying it was a “small quake but big panic”. The earthquake struck at 10:38 am (local time), with its epicentre located in Ghorashal area of Narsingdi district, approximately 25 km from Dhaka, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The depth was reported at 10 km. Initial police reports confirmed three deaths, while The Hindustan Times cited Dhaka-based DBC Television as reporting six fatalities in the capital alone — including three due to collapsing structures and three pedestrians struck by falling railings.
