by Khalid Gul · Greater KashmirAnantnag, Apr 25: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Friday extended financial support of Rs 5 lakh to the family of Syed Adil, a Kashmiri youth who lost his life while protecting tourists during a terror attack in Pahalgam.
The cheque was delivered in person by Sarhad Pune representatives who visited Adilís home in Hapatnar village, Aishmuqam to express solidarity with the grieving family.
During the visit, Shinde also interacted with the family via video call, offering heartfelt condolences.
Syed Adil, who earned his livelihood by offering horse rides to tourists, displayed remarkable courage when terrorists opened fire in the area.
In an attempt to shield a tourist riding with him, he tried to snatch a weapon from one of the attackers. Tragically, he was shot dead during the confrontation.
The cheque was officially handed over by Shiv Sena representatives and border officials with local MLA Syed Rafiq Shah, Sarhad Pune coordinator Zahid Bhat, and Vaibhav Wagh also present.
During the video interaction, Adilís brother emotionally recounted the incident and praised Adilís bravery in confronting the terrorists.
Deputy CM Shinde described Adilís actions as a ìbeacon of humanity and valourî and assured the family that his sacrifice would not be forgotten. Besides the financial aid, Shinde pledged full government assistance to help rebuild the familyís dilapidated home. The Maharashtra government, in collaboration with Sarhad, a Pune-based NGO, will take responsibility for the reconstruction effort. On April 23, Maharashtra Deputy CM Shinde flew to Srinagar to oversee relief efforts. He visited a relief camp near the airport, met with stranded tourists from Maharashtra, listened to their experiences, and offered support. Several tourists spoke with admiration about Adilís heroic act, which moved Shinde and prompted swift action to aid the bereaved family.
