One dead, child injured in road accident in Jammu Kashmir’s Rajouri
by Sumit Bhargav · Greater KashmirRajouri, Feb 25: A fatal accident on the Thanamandi-Manjakote road at Sora Pull in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir left one person dead and a child injured on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Gulzar Hussain, son of Kalu, a resident of Palanghar, while a three-year-old child sustained critical injuries in the mishap.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle, carrying Gulzar and the child, lost control and plunged into a deep river gorge. Gulzar died on the spot, while the child, identified as Mohib, son of Sikander, was critically injured and is undergoing treatment.
Police confirmed that the accident involved a JK11G 6280 vehicle, which skidded off the road and fell into the gorge.
Local residents have blamed the Public Works Department (PWD) for failing to maintain the road, alleging that its poor condition led to the accident. They pointed out that a particular stretch of the road is riddled with potholes and has been in a deteriorated state for years, despite repeated promises from authorities to carry out repairs.
Additionally, locals criticized the absence of crash barriers along this accident-prone stretch, accusing officials of negligence despite being aware of the risks.
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
