Gunfight rages in north Kashmir's Sopore
by GK Web Desk · Greater KashmirSrinagar, Jan 19: A fierce gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Gujjarpati, Zaloora area of north Kashmir’s Sopore on Sunday.
Reports reaching to GNS stated that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Zaloora after specific inputs received about presence of militants in the area.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
A senior police officer also confirmed about exchange of firing between militants and security forces.
Army said that based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a joint cordon and search operation was launched at Gujjarpati, Sopore in Baramulla. They said that suspicious activity was observed by vigilant tropps and on being challenged, terrorists fired indiscriminately which however was retaliated.
“On 19 Jan 25, based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a Joint Cordon & Search Operation was launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice at Gujjarpatti, Sopore, Baramulla. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. Own troops effectively retaliated. Operation is in progress,” Army’s Chinar Corps said on X.
As per the sources two to three militants are believed to be trapped.
