Saif Ali Khan injured in knife attack
by SURINDER SINGH OBEROI · Greater KashmirNew Delhi, Jan 16: Saif Ali Khan, one of the leading Bollywood actors is recovering in Lilavati Hospital after sustaining multiple injuries during an attempted burglary at his residence in Bandra, Mumbai, in the early hours of Thursday.
The incident of attack occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. when an unidentified intruder armed with a knife broke into the actor’s 12th-floor apartment in the Satguru Sharan building in Mumbai.
According to police initial reports, as reported by the media, the intruder entered the premises using the staircase and confronted a household staff member, prompting an alarm. Khan, who intervened during the altercation, was attacked and sustained multiple (around six) injuries, including a critical wound near his thoracic spine.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam confirmed to the media that one suspect has been identified through CCTV footage, but no arrests have been made. “Ten teams have been formed for the investigation, and efforts are underway to apprehend the intruder,” Gedam stated during a press briefing.
Khan underwent emergency surgery at the Lilavati Hospital to remove the knife lodged near his spine. Neurosurgeon Dr Nitin Dange, who performed the procedure, said, “He is stable, recovering well, and out of danger.”
The actor also suffered deep wounds to his left wrist and the right side of his neck, which were treated by a team led by plastic surgeon Dr Leena Jain. According to Lilavati Hospital COO Dr Niraj Uttamani, Khan is expected to remain in the ICU for observation and may be discharged in a few days.
Khan’s family, including wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and their two sons, Taimur and Jeh, were home during the incident but were unharmed. A spokesperson from the actor’s team assured the public that he is recovering and requested patience as the police investigation continues.
Several Bollywood celebrities and extended family members visited the hospital to express their support. Social media is abuzz with messages from fans and colleagues wishing Khan a speedy recovery.
The attack on a celebrity in one of the posh areas where vigilance and security by both police and private security guards remain a high priority has sparked a political debate over Mumbai’s law and order situation. Several opposition leaders have questioned the prevailing law and order situation calling it as deteriorating.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis defended the city’s safety record, stating, “Mumbai is one of the safest places in the country, but isolated incidents like this can occur. The police are investigating, and all details will be shared soon.”
Police have filed an FIR against the unidentified attacker and are analysing CCTV footage. Police are also questioning potential witnesses. Authorities are also reviewing security measures at celebrity residences in the area.
