New Delhi, Feb 23: An armed man was shot dead after entering the secure perimeter of US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida early Sunday, the Secret Service said.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Austin T Martin of North Carolina, was carrying a shotgun and a fuel can when he approached the north gate of the property around 1:30 am local time. President Trump was in Washington, DC at the time of the incident.

According to authorities, the man was shot by Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy after he raised the weapon. No law enforcement personnel were injured. Officers were wearing body cameras.

Martin had been reported missing by his family in North Carolina hours earlier. The Moore County Sheriff’s Office said it had no prior record involving him and is not part of the Florida investigation. Federal authorities, including the FBI, are assisting in the probe.

Security at Mar-a-Lago remains tight, with layered protection provided by local law enforcement and the Secret Service. The incident comes amid heightened concerns over political violence in the United States following previous assassination attempts targeting the president.
