Foreign Secretary meets Nepal’s top leadership, discusses ways to deepen ties

New Delhi, Aug 17: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Sunday held a series of high-level meetings with Nepal’s leadership, underlining India’s push to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. According to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, Misri called on Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel and conveyed greetings from India’s leadership. In a post on X, the embassy said Misri “briefed the Hon’ble President on the progress in bilateral ties.” He also met Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba.

The embassy noted, “There was a substantial exchange of views on issues of mutual interest and ways to further enhance the multifaceted partnership, across all sectors.”

Earlier, the embassy described Misri’s arrival in Kathmandu as “reflecting the tradition of regular high-level exchanges” and reaffirming India’s commitment to its Neighbourhood First policy. PTI reported that Misri later met Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singhdurbar, where both sides discussed ways to deepen cooperation. Misri is on a two-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of his counterpart, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai.
