Union Home Secretary, IB Chief arrive on two-day Jammu visit
by GK Web Desk · Greater KashmirJammu, Jan 14: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka and other senior Central officials are arriving in Jammu today for a two-day visit to review the overall security scenario in the Union Territory, with a special focus on counter-terror operations and border security.
Official sources told news agency Kashmir News said — KNC, the visiting team will hold a high-level security review meeting at the Police Headquarters shortly after their arrival. The meeting is expected to assess the prevailing security situation across Jammu and Kashmir, including attempts by Pakistan-based handlers to push terrorists and arms through drone activity and infiltration routes.
Sources said the review will largely centre on ongoing anti-terror operations in mountainous and forested areas of districts such as Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua and Udhampur, where security forces have been carrying out sustained operations to track and neutralise terrorists. Strengthening the anti-infiltration grid and enhancing coordination among various security agencies will also be discussed.
Top officials including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, senior police and intelligence officers, heads of paramilitary forces and representatives of Central intelligence agencies are expected to attend the meeting.
Though no recent major infiltration attempts have been reported along the Line of Control and International Border, security agencies believe terrorist groups are waiting at launch pads across the border for favourable conditions. The Army and BSF continue to maintain heightened vigilance along both the LoC and IB to foil any intrusion attempts.
Sources further said the visiting Central team is likely to undertake an on-ground assessment by visiting areas along the International Border in the Jammu sector to review operational preparedness.
The two-day visit comes close on the heels of a high-level security review chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on January 8, during which the Centre reiterated its commitment to completely eradicate terrorism and ensure lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNC)
