Amanda Holden addresses problem with Les Dennis relationship that she noticed 'from day one'
by Danny Gutmann · BristolLiveAmanda Holden has revealed that she noticed a relationship problem with former Coronation Street star Les Dennis "from day one".
Reflecting on her younger years in her memoir, No Holding Back, the Britain's Got Talent judge shared details of her relationship with Les after they first met in 1993, confessing that she felt the weight of being thrust into the spotlight: "From day one, though, I felt as if no one else understood and that all eyes were on me for being with him."
Having not previously felt the affects of fame, she explained how Les' well established place as a celebrity in the public's consciousness was difficult to adapt to at first: "Les was a successful family entertainer and well liked by the public. As well as appearing in prime-time TV shows, and end-of-the-pier farces, he'd been on the Christmas pantomime circuit for years. Everyone seemed to love him and he was often recognised in the street. I'd never experienced fame before."
Having met for the first time whilst appearing alongside each other during a production of The Sound of Music in Bournemouth's Pavilion Theatre, the couple started dating before walking down the aisle in June 1995. But their marriage wasn't to last after Amanda's affair with Waterloo Road actor Neil Morrisey came to light in 2000, with Amanda and Les officially divorcing three years later.
Since the end of their marriage, both celebrities have gone on to find love again, with Les meeting his current wife, Claire Nicholson in 2005 before they later married and had two children together. Meanwhile, five years after her relationship with Les came to an end, Amanda married record producer, Chris Hughes and have had two children together, Alexa 'Lexi' Louise Florence and Hollie Rose.
Away from her love life, Amanda has become a prominent figure in the broadcasting world over the last two decades, featuring in the likes of Britain's Got Talent and even had a short stint co-hosting ITV's This Morning. However, tonight she will be returning to our screens in Amanda & Alan's Spanish Job as she joins comedian Alan Carr as they look to transform dilapidated properties in the idyllic setting of southern Spain.
Amanda returns to our screens in Amanda & Alan's Spanish Job this evening (March 14) at 8.30pm on BBC One.
