The strong YoY performance comes as Hyundai continues to depend on its SUV portfolio for a major share of domestic volumes. Creta remains one of the company’s key volume drivers, supported by models such as Venue, Exter and Alcazar. Hyundai also has hatchbacks and sedans including Grand i10 Nios, i20, Aura and Verna in its portfolio.

Exports Decline 31%

While domestic sales registered healthy growth, exports moved in the opposite direction. Hyundai exported 11,400 vehicles in August 2026, compared to 16,500 units during August 2025. This represents a decline of 5,100 units or 30.91% YoY.

Despite the decline in exports, strong domestic performance helped Hyundai end the month with positive overall growth. Combined domestic and export sales stood at 65,796 units, compared to 60,501 units in August 2025. Total sales therefore increased by 5,295 units, translating to 8.75% YoY growth.

Commenting on August 2026 sales results, Mr. Tarun Garg, MD & CEO – HMIL, said, “We continue to sustain strong growth momentum in FY2027, with domestic sales growing by 12.6% YoY during the April-August period. Our August domestic sales of 54,396 units (+23.6% YoY), the highest-ever figure for any August month, reflect the popularity of Hyundai’s versatile product portfolio. While total exports in August were impacted by logistical constraints arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the broader geo-political environment during the month, we remain optimistic that export demand will continue to be strong in the coming months as the geo-political situation improves.”

New Models Planned

Hyundai is preparing for a significant expansion of its India portfolio over the coming years. The company recently outlined plans for 26 product launches by 2030, comprising new models as well as updates to existing products.

Several upcoming vehicles are already undergoing testing. These include the Bayon-based midsize SUV, internally codenamed BC4i, which is expected to be positioned between Venue and Creta. Hyundai is also working on new electric small car for India, which is planned for launch later this year. Next gen Creta is planned for launch in 2027.
