As per the latest FADA retail registration data, a total of 31,823 electric cars were sold in June 2026, registering a massive 107.75% year-on-year (YoY) growth over 15,318 units sold in June 2025. Compared to 26,682 units retailed in May 2026, EV sales also grew 19.27% month-on-month (MoM).

Tata Motors remained India’s largest electric car brand with 12,187 retail sales in June 2026. The company commanded a 38.30% market share and recorded an impressive 126.73% YoY growth, adding 6,812 more units than the same month last year. On a monthly basis, Tata’s EV sales increased by 17.86% over May.
Mahindra secured second position with 7,766 units, growing 121.06% YoY and 25.06% MoM. The company held a 24.40% share of the EV market, supported by strong demand for its Born Electric portfolio. JSW MG ranked third with 5,861 units, registering 24.94% YoY and 17.60% MoM growth. The brand captured an 18.42% market share, continuing its consistent performance in the electric SUV space. Maruti Suzuki took fourth place with 1,919 units, marking its first full year of retail sales in the EV segment following the launch of eVitara.
VinFast followed with 1,404 units, as the Vietnamese manufacturer continued expanding its retail presence across India. BYD retailed 873 units, growing 51.30% YoY, while BMW recorded 497 units, more than doubling its sales with a 105.37% increase over June last year. Kia retailed 449 electric vehicles, Hyundai sold 352 units, and Mercedes-Benz accounted for 234 units during the month. Volvo registered 37 units, Tesla retailed 37 Model Y SUVs, while Toyota entered the electric passenger vehicle retail charts with 32 units following the launch of Urban Cruiser Ebella. Citroen retailed 24 electric cars, while the “Others” category accounted for 151 units.
Q2 2026 EV retail sales – Tata stays ahead, Mahindra closes gap
The April-June 2026 quarter also reflected the strong momentum in India’s electric passenger vehicle segment. Total EV retail sales stood at 82,011 units in CY Q2 2026, compared to 43,464 units in the same period last year, translating to an impressive 88.69% YoY growth.
Tata Motors remained the market leader during the quarter with 31,070 retail sales, accounting for 37.89% market share. Mahindra retained second place with 19,389 units, nearly doubling its volumes as well with 99.78% YoY growth. JSW MG secured third position with 15,851 units, registering 21.31% growth over Q2 2025 and accounting for 19.33% market share.
Maruti Suzuki retailed 4,741 electric vehicles during the quarter following the introduction of eVitara, while VinFast registered 3,874 units as it expanded its presence in India. BYD sold 2,028 units, up 27.07% YoY, while BMW nearly doubled its EV sales to 1,149 units, registering 95.74% growth.
Kia recorded 1,140 units, reflecting a sharp increase over the corresponding period last year. Hyundai, however, witnessed a decline of 35.60%, retailing 1,328 units. Mercedes-Benz sold 546 electric vehicles, Tesla registered 115 units, Volvo retailed 107 units, Toyota entered the EV retail charts with 32 units, while Citroen sold 71 units during the quarter.
EVs Market Share Increase
Electric passenger vehicle adoption continues to accelerate in India. EVs accounted for 7.75% of passenger vehicle retail sales in June 2026, up from 6.63% in May and 4.80% in June 2025, reflecting the fastest-growing powertrain segment in the market.
