Car Sales June 2026, Q2 and H1 – Maruti Leads, Tata And Mahindra Gain Ground

H2 2026 begins on a strong note for the Indian passenger vehicle industry, with June dispatches rising nearly 26% YoY and H1 volumes crossing 25.95 lakh units

The Indian passenger vehicle industry closed June 2026 on a positive note, recording wholesale dispatches of 3,91,968 units, up 25.81% from 3,11,559 units sold in June 2025. On a month-on-month basis, however, dispatches declined by 11.08% from 4,40,808 units in May 2026, largely due to production adjustments and scheduled plant shutdowns at some manufacturers.

June 2026 – Maruti Remains No.1, Tata Crosses 62k Units

Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the market with 1,47,187 units dispatched in June 2026, accounting for 37.55% market share. Sales increased 23.78% YoY, although volumes were down 22.67% MoM. The month-on-month decline was largely due to Maruti Suzuki’s scheduled one-week block shutdown across its production facilities.

Tata Motors secured second position with 62,076 units, posting an impressive 67.40% YoY growth and 5.05% MoM growth. Mahindra followed closely with 60,393 units, growing 46.91% YoY and 4.09% over May, continuing its strong momentum. Hyundai remained fourth with 39,635 units, though it reported a decline, with sales falling 9.97% YoY and 17.15% MoM. This is due to a fire incident at one of their major suppliers, which affected production.

Toyota dispatched 28,441 units, registering 7.52% YoY growth, while Kia recorded 24,552 units, up 19.04% YoY despite an 11% decline over May. Among other manufacturers, MG Motor sold 7,568 units, up 29.83% YoY and 25.13% MoM, while Skoda registered 6,220 units, growing 24.05% YoY. Honda posted 5,243 units, an increase of 13.53% YoY.

Renault continued its recovery with 4,063 units, up 54.78% YoY, while Nissan more than doubled its dispatches to 3,006 units, recording 128.94% YoY growth, aided by anticipation surrounding upcoming products like the Tekton SUV. Volkswagen reported 2,467 units, down 20.14% YoY, while Citroen grew 43.77% to 877 units. Jeep dispatched 240 units, registering a marginal 8.40% decline.

Q2 2026 – Industry Crosses 12.7 Lakh Units

The April-June quarter witnessed healthy growth across most manufacturers. Maruti Suzuki retained leadership with 5,25,228 units, growing 33.45% YoY and capturing 41.21% market share. Tata Motors strengthened its position with 1,80,166 units, recording 45.48% growth, while Mahindra sold 1,74,745 units, up 19.80%. Hyundai reported 1,39,374 units, registering 5.38% YoY growth, ahead of Toyota, which sold 89,174 units, an increase of 10.68%.

Kia posted 79,424 units, up 19.32%, while MG recorded 19,634 units, growing 9.31%. Among the remaining manufacturers, Honda grew 20.92%, Renault surged 75.82%, and Nissan recorded an impressive 103.85% growth. Citroen also more than doubled its volumes with 62.64% growth, while Volkswagen and Jeep remained in negative territory.

H1 2026 – Industry Grows Nearly 19%

During the January-June 2026 period, the Indian passenger vehicle industry dispatched 25,95,401 units, an increase of 18.57% compared to H1 2025. Maruti Suzuki remained comfortably ahead with 10,26,976 units, commanding 39.57% market share. Tata Motors secured second position with 3,78,909 units, recording 40.35% growth, while Mahindra followed with 3,58,545 units, up 19.04%.

Hyundai sold 3,05,952 units, registering 7.05% growth, while Toyota crossed 1.85 lakh units, improving 14.97% over last year. Kia reported 1,63,749 units, growing 15.20%, while MG posted 35,962 units, up 12.66%. Renault continued its recovery with 61.22% growth to 25,845 units, while Nissan delivered one of the strongest performances among mainstream brands, with H1 dispatches rising 56.08% to 18,297 units.

Citroen emerged as the fastest-growing brand in percentage terms, more than doubling sales to 4,908 units, while Volkswagen and Jeep were the only manufacturers to report declines over the first six months of the year.
