Intense downpours are striking Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanmakonda, Siddipet, Jangaon, and Yadadri-Bhongir, with rainfall totals expected to reach up to 200 mm in some areas. These conditions pose a serious risk of flash floods and waterlogging across several low-lying regions. The cyclone is now moving northward, and districts like Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jagitial, and Mancherial are likely to witness heavy rainfall by evening. Authorities are urging residents to remain indoors, avoid travel in flood-prone areas, and stay alert to official weather updates.

Montha Effect In Andhra Pradesh
Cyclone completely crossed the coast around 2 AM and is now moving into the eastern parts of Telangana, gradually weakening. At present, the Amaravathi–Guntur region is witnessing very heavy rains and strong winds. Overnight, Bapatla, NTR, and Guntur districts received heavy to very heavy rainfall. The intensity of rains is expected to reduce by afternoon, and the state will likely be free from Montha’s impact thereafter.

Cyclone Montha causing Extremely severe rains over Bapatla region now and that region can easily record 200-300 mm in no time with winds upto 90 kmph. On and off bursts of rains ahead for Vijayawada and Guntur will see On and Off rains and by the time landfall process completes entire region of Vijayawada – Guntur – Amaravathi will be on Heavy rainfall zone with winds upto 80 kmph.

On Wednesday, heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, and Palnadu districts. Moderate to heavy rains are expected at isolated places in Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, and West Godavari districts. In Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, and Anantapur districts, moderate to heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places. People are advised to take necessary precautions.

Severe Cyclone Montha made landfall between Kakinada and Machilipatnam. In the past six hours, the cyclone has been moving at a speed of 17 km per hour. At present, it is centered about 120 km from Machilipatnam, 110 km from Kakinada, and 220 km from Visakhapatnam. It will take around 3–4 hours for the cyclone to completely cross the coast. The landfall is expected near Kakinada. Along the coastal areas, strong winds are blowing at speeds of 90–100 km per hour. People are advised to stay safe indoors.
The severe Montha cyclone is moving close to the Andhra coast and is expected to make landfall near Sankaraguptam in Razole, Konaseema district. Heavy rains and strong winds are already lashing nearby coastal areas as authorities remain on high alert.
Cyclone Montha’s landfall near Konaseema is not expected to cause major impact there, with only moderate rains (50–100 mm) and winds of 70–90 km/h likely in Kakinada, East Godavari, and Konaseema. Instead, the cyclone’s main rainbands will heavily impact Krishna, West Godavari, Bapatla, Guntur, NTR, and Eluru districts with extreme rainfall (100–200 mm). Vizag and nearby areas will see moderate rains, while rainfall will ease in Nellore, Prakasam, and Tirupati by tonight.
Cyclone Montha has disrupted air services across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, leading to the cancellation of 35 flights. This includes 18 flights between Visakhapatnam and Secunderabad, along with several others from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Rajamahendravaram. Among the cancelled flights, 9 were from Visakhapatnam, 5 from Rajamahendravaram, and 3 from Vijayawada. Authorities have advised passengers to check airline updates before travelling, as weather conditions continue to affect flight operations in the region.
Due to Cyclone Montha, South Central Railway has cancelled 107 trains across AP & Telanagana, including 70 on Tuesday, 36 on Wednesday, and one on Thursday. Routes connecting Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram, and other cities are affected, with 18 trains rescheduled. Passengers are advised to check official updates before travelling. Indian Railways has set up a main control office in Vijayawada Division to monitor train operations and ensure passenger safety during the cyclone’s impact.
Vijayawada’s Chittinagar braces for Cyclone Montha as public announcements are being made for public evacuations are being done to move residents from hilly areas to relief camps. Local water canals have also been cleared to ensure smooth water flow and prevent flash floods during the heavy rains.
The severe cyclone is slowly moving toward Konaseema, bringing heavy rains near the Nellore–Prakasam coast till around 3 PM. Later, rains will shift toward Bapatla and Krishna districts, with winds strengthening across Andhra Pradesh.
As of now, Cyclone Montha is about 300 km away from Kakinada and 410 km from Visakhapatnam. The storm is slowly moving towards the Andhra coast, causing strong winds and rough sea waves.
Cyclone gradually building strength. Early rains already reaching coastal areas like Vizag, while Vijayawada and Guntur, being inland, are expected to get stronger showers by evening as the system moves toward Central Andhra Pradesh.
In Kakinada district, the coastal stretch near Uppada has been severely affected, with strong waves hitting the shoreline affecting the houses at the low-lying coastal region . The Uppada–Kakinada beach road has completely collapsed due to the heavy sea erosion, cutting off connectivity between the two areas.
A seventh danger signal has been issued by Kakinada Port ahead of Cyclone Montha’s expected landfall, indicating a major threat to the coast.
