by George Allen, Niamh Kirk, Rom Preston-Ellis · NottinghamshireLiveCelebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has revealed his top tips on what to avoid when dining out. In an interview with Town and Country, he shared that he typically gives the 'soup of the day' a miss, hinting it could just be a trick for kitchens to utilize leftovers or unsold items from previous days.
He advised: "Ask what yesterday's soup du jour was before today's special. It may be the case that it's the soup du month."
Ramsay also recommends tapping into servers' knowledge to discover the best dishes. Asking your server for recommendations is likely to lead you to the most exciting and beloved items on the menu.
From his vast experience, Ramsay mentioned: "It depends on the restaurant, but servers tend to taste most of the dishes on the menu and can give you insight into what the chef has added and what the locals have," noting that it helped him get "great recommendations".
In addition, the acclaimed chef pointed out common red flags at restaurants, suggesting caution towards establishments showcasing excessive self-praise in their descriptions with terms like "world's best," "famous," or "best in the country.", reports the Mirror.
He further advises diners to be wary of a disproportionate number of specials on the menu, as they might not actually be the highlights they’re presented to be.
Gordon Ramsay laid out his perspective on restaurant specials, pointing out: "Specials are there to disappear throughout the evening. When they list 10 specials, that's not special," in his discussion with The Mail, which was also covered by The Express.
