Nottingham student dies aged 18 after electric bike crash on university campus
by Oliver Pridmore · NottinghamshireLiveA Nottingham student has died aged 18 after being involved in a crash while riding an electric bicycle. Nottinghamshire Police has confirmed that the young woman sustained serious injuries in the early hours of Tuesday (February 25) after riding the electric bike on the University of Nottingham's Park Campus.
The student was taken to hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical staff, she was pronounced dead a short time later. The parents of the victim have been informed.
Detective Sergeant Paul Clark, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This is a tragic incident that I know will come as a shock to all who knew and loved the victim. Officers will remain at the scene for much of the day as we work to understand the sequence of events that led to this young woman's tragic and untimely death.
"As that work continues our thoughts are with her family at this very difficult time." A heavy police presence remains at the scene of the crash as of 11am this morning, with two Lime bikes visible within the large Nottinghamshire Police cordon.
The cordon is centred on East Drive's junction with Keighton Hill. Anyone with any additional information about the incident is asked to call 101 quoting incident 55 of February 25.
Nottinghamshire Police initially said the victim of this morning's crash was 21 years old. The force then got in touch at around 1.45pm to say the victim was actually 18.
