GBBO's Alison Hammond forced to step in as contestant says 'I quit' in chaos
by Angie Quinn · NottinghamshireLiveThe Great British Bake Off almost plunged into disarray during the semi-final when contestant Georgie Grasso contemplated leaving during patisserie week's challenge. The bakers, vying for a spot in the finals, were set upon by judge Paul Hollywood to create an opera cake—a complex dessert with numerous layers.
Overwhelmed by the intricate task, Georgie expressed feelings of defeat to her fellow contestants, saying "I quit". Host Alison Hammond was quick to intervene, providing support and encouragement.
Georgie revealed her frustration, exclaiming, "Oh my god I have done it wrong" and "I don't understand", visibly distressed with her hands covering her face. Her dismay grew as she declared, "I'm going, I've had enough, I'm going. I just don't want to do it. I'm done", becoming tearful but resolved to "I'm going to stand here until the end."
Alison offered comfort, drawing from her own experiences, assuring Georgie, "Listen to me, I have been where you are, you can do it". She continued to bolster the baker's confidence, urging her to discard any self-doubt: "Please, I'm begging ya, get that negative and throw it away right now".
Persuaded by Alison, Georgie agreed, "Yeah", and returned to the task at hand. Despite her opera cake placing last, it was regarded as a valiant effort, reports Wales Online.
Bake Off fans took to social media to express their support for contestants Georgie and Alison. One viewer posted: "Poor Georgie, gone into full on panic mode where your brain just goes into a "no, I can't do anything" spiral.
