Robert Redford dead: Hollywood legend dies aged 89 as publicist confirms news

The actor, renowned for his roles in films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All The President's Men and more recently the Marvel Cinematic Universe, died peacefully in his sleep at his Utah home early on Tuesday morning (September 16).
The news was confirmed by Cindi Berger, chief executive of publicity firm Rogers and Cowan PMK, reports the Daily Star.
Over his extensive career, Redford was nominated for five Oscars, securing two wins for Best Director for Ordinary People in 1980 and an Honorary Award in 2002. He also received three Golden Globes, a BAFTA, a Screen Actors Guild Award among numerous other accolades.
Redford began his acting journey in New York City, making his mark on television and stage, with his Broadway debut in a minor role in Tall Story in 1959. His screen debut followed a year later in Tall Story, reprising his Broadway role.
The 1960s saw Redford's rise to fame, but he soon grew wary of being typecast as a blond man, leading him to decline roles in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and The Graduate.
