Oasis make last minute change as band member axed after final reunion tour rehearsal
by Sam Cooper, Mark Jefferies · NottinghamshireLiveOasis have made an eleventh-hour alteration to their ensemble – a musician named in the tour programme will not be joining them on their upcoming gigs.
The Mirror disclosed how the core Oasis lineup remained intact, with Liam Gallagher leading vocals and Noel Gallagher on guitar, flanked by long-time mates Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, Gem Archer, and Andy Bell. Joey Waronker, who drummed alongside Liam Gallagher and John Squire last year, is the new addition behind the drums.
However, the tour programme also mentions other musicians set to accompany the band: Christian Madden on keyboards, Jess Greenfield providing backing vocals, Alastair White on trombone, Steve Hamilton on saxophone, and Joe Auckland on trumpet.
Jess Greenfield was poised to be one of the few female members to join the group on stage, but The Mirror has been informed that she will no longer be performing.
An insider revealed that her name appeared only in preliminary versions of the programme and that she won't be part of the tour, reports the Mirror.
"The band are not using backing singers anymore. Noel has worked loads with Jess in the past but after final rehearsals were done and the set list was drawn up it made more sense for Noel to do the backing vocals for Liam on the songs. It's a shame for Jess but it's likely there will be other opportunities for her with Noel in the future. They just didn't need her in the end."
In a recent episode of the podcast Behind The Curtain, Jess shared her surprise about the Oasis reunion, stating: "I found out pretty much when everyone else did. I'd heard rumours and then I heard for definite two days before through someone else. Yeah It was definitely a shock."
She expressed her eagerness to attend the concert, saying: "I'd love to go. Hopefully Wembley cos it is Wembley. It's amazing and the last time they performed those songs properly was in the Nineties when I was a teenager and I didn't go to the gigs back in the day."
Jess also added: "So it will be nice to see it as an adult. I'm really looking forward to it."
The line-up includes trumpet player Joe Auckland, saxophonist Steve Hamilton, and trombonist Alastair White, who have all played with Noel in his band The High Flying Birds, while Christian Madden is on keyboards with Liam. Bonehead is listed as playing both guitar and piano on tour.
Today marks a historic moment as Noel and Liam are set to share the stage for the first time in public since the band's split nearly two decades ago, with a performance in Cardiff. The tour will also include stops in Manchester, London, and Dublin.
Despite rehearsals reportedly taking place at the stadium this week, Liam has downplayed speculation about the setlist when questioned by fans.
Enthusiastic fans started queuing outside the stadium last night, with some of the earliest arrivals being rewarded with an upgrade to VIP status.
The group will finally perform this evening, having disbanded in August 2009. In promotional footage for last year's reunion announcement, Liam was quoted as saying: "When we both come together, you have greatness."
Noel then adds: "I know my brother better than anybody else. This is it, this is happening."
