Olivia Pratt-Korbel's killer Thomas Cashman loses bid to overturn murder conviction
by Sam Cooper, Chiara Fiorillo · NottinghamshireLiveThe man responsible for the murder of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel, Thomas Cashman, has failed in his attempt to challenge his conviction at the Court of Appeal. Olivia tragically lost her life when a bullet fired by Cashman struck her as he pursued a drug dealer who had attempted to enter her home in Knotty Ash, Liverpool, in August 2022.
In April 2023, Cashman was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 42 years, and an attempt to challenge this sentence was rejected by the Court of Appeal last November. On Wednesday, legal representatives for Cashman, now aged 36, argued that the court should order investigations into claims that jurors were given panic alarms by police and allegations that evidence not presented at trial was given to them during their deliberations.
However, three senior judges dismissed the appeal bid, with Lord Justice Holroyde stating that full reasons for their decision would be provided at a later date, reports the Mirror.
