All Hondius crew members in Rotterdam test negative for hantavirus
None of the people who were still on board the Dutch cruise ship Hondius when it docked in Rotterdam tested positive for the hantavirus. They are also not showing symptoms, Minister Sophie Hermans of Public Health, Welfare, and Sports reported in a letter to parliament on Thursday.
The ship was hit by a hantavirus outbreak. Three people died, including a couple from Friesland. When the ship arrived at the port of Rotterdam on Monday, there were still 27 people on board - 25 crew members, and a Dutch doctor and nurse.
The Dutch crew members went into home quarantine. Foreign crew members who could not travel back to their home countries are staying in quarantine cabins in the port of Rotterdam.
The crew members and the Dutch healthcare workers will be tested weekly, even if they do not develop symptoms.
A Dutch passenger from the Hondius who was admitted to Radboudumc on May 7 with symptoms and later tested positive for the hantavirus has since left the hospital. This person is now in at-home quarantine.
