Sheriff's office delivers good news in kidnapping case as Nancy Guthrie case 'haunts' cops

For months, the Pima County Sheriff's Department has faced criticism for its investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.

Critics slammed the cops for what they say is their failure to have not yet produced the suspect or locate the 84-year-old.

Amid the mounting criticism, the Pima County Sheriff's Department conjured a reportedly much-needed victory.

Just seven miles away from Nancy's home, a female — currently unidentified — has been kidnapped.

Now, the department has located her and begun the hunt for alleged criminal Coral Michelle Smith.

She is wanted on kidnapping and assaulting charges for the unidentified female victim.

However, the proximity between the two cases sparked speculations.

Several believed the two investigations could be linked.

However, the Pima County Sheriff's Department set aside the rumors in a new statement.

"This is not connected to the Guthrie investigation," a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff's Department said.

Meanwhile, the investigation into Nancy's disappearance is ongoing; she went missing from home near Tucson, Arizona, on Feb. 1.
