Nancy Guthrie update: Ex-FBI agent slams conspiracy theories targeting her family
by By Hassan Sohail · The News InternationalWhen Nancy Guthrie disappeared last February, a search began. But some quarters of social media delved into what reports say were 'conspiracy theories.'
They said the captors, and some even went further, that the alleged murderer of the 84-year-old was her daughter Annie and son-in-law Tommaso.
Authorities strenuously denied that, however.
Now, Jennifer Coffindaffer, an ex-FBI agent, is taking a swipe at the heart of the conspiracy.
In a tweet on X, she voiced frustration over such theories, saying that they are unsupported by facts.
By contrast, Coffindaffer said Nancy was extremely close to her daughter Annie and son-in-law, who also cared for her.
"She loved playing Mahjong and eating Saturday night dinners with them," the former FBI agent wrote.
She continued, "Annie and Tommaso were her caregivers who made sure Nancy could stay in the house she loved and purchased 50 years ago to raise her family."
Still, the claims on the internet have turned a heartbreaking missing-person case into what she described as a platform for hoarding views by turning it into a sensational conspiracy.
A few of them, Coffindaffer cited, include claims of Nancy having gambling debts to a cartel and turning down a loan to someone.
"All of this was made up for clicks and views by YouTubers and Streamers and proliferated by those who want clicks and views," she said.
Capping off, Coffindaffer wrote, "Nancy was kidnapped for ransom. That's the truth. No facade. No fake kidnapping."
