Trump says Iran ceasefire is 'on life support' after rejecting proposal

US President Donald Trump said the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran is “on life support” after rejecting Iran’s latest counterproposal to end the ongoing conflict.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, Trump described the month-old truce as “unbelievably weak” following Tehran’s response to US peace terms.

“I would call it the weakest, right now, after reading that piece of garbage they sent us — I didn’t even finish reading it,” Trump said.

“I would say the ceasefire is on massive life support, where the doctor walks in and says, ‘Sir, your loved one has approximately a 1% chance of living.’”

The ceasefire began on April 8 after Trump threatened to destroy Iran’s “whole civilization” if no agreement was reached.

Although initially planned to last two weeks, the truce was later extended by the White House.

Tensions have continued despite the ceasefire, with both sides accusing each other of violations.

Last week, clashes reportedly included exchanges of fire in the Strait of Hormuz and attacks involving oil tankers.

In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump also criticised Iran’s latest response to Washington’s proposal, writing: “I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!”
