Israel air strikes kill journalist and four others in Lebanon as ceasefire comes under pressure

Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least five people, including a journalist, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.

The NNA reported that an initial strike targeted a car in the village of at-Tiri, killing two people. The Israeli military said it struck vehicles linked to a Hezbollah military structure.

A later air strike hit a building in the same area, where journalists had gathered to report on the earlier attack.

Amal Khalil, a journalist working for Al Akhbar, was found dead after being trapped under rubble.

Al Jazeera reported for several hours, rescue workers and Red Cross tried to reach Khalil and another journalist, Zeinab Faraj, who had gone to the site of an earlier Israeli drone strike on a car.

The workers were unable to reach them for a long time due to continued Israeli attacks in the area.”

Faraj was taken to hospital in “very serious condition and will be requiring surgery, the outlet said.

Lebanon’s health ministry accused Israel of targeting the journalists and blocking rescue efforts, while Israel denied the claims, stating it “does not target journalists and acts to mitigate harm to them”.

Separate strikes in Yohmor al-Shaqif reportedly killed two more people.
