Trump promises retaliation after Iran 'shoots down' Apache helicopter

President Trump announced a response to Iran is on the cards after the U.S. military informed him about Iranian forces shooting down an American Apache helicopter.

The helicopter was on a patrol mission overnight over the Strait of Hormuz when the incident happened.

"I have just been informed by our great military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz."

The Apache, an advanced helicopter, had been carrying two pilots. Both of them had been rescued, according to a statement by Trump.

"There were two pilots involved; both are safe and uninjured," he wrote.

In response to an attack described by Trump, he said the U.S. would respond.

"Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

It is unclear when the potential retaliation will come or how it will impact the already fraught ceasefire.
