In a poor display of tennis, India’s no. 1 singles tennis player Sumit Nagal exited from the Australian Open in the first round itself, on Sunday, after he lost to Czech Thomas Machac 3-6, 1-6, 5-7. The World no. 96 Nagal was no match to his 26th seeded opponent, when there were a few expectations from the man from Jhajjar.

The first two sets were rather one-sided where Sumit Nagal failed to get going. But in the third set, the Indian showed signs of improvement. At one point, he was leading 4-1 in the set, but somehow found a way to squander the initiative and lose it 5-7.
