Chennai Super Kings have struck gold in the form of Sanju Samson and is legit the team’s biggest positive in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). Traded from Rajasthan Royals for Rs 18 crore, the Keralam keeper-batter is the leading run-getter for the five-time champions in the ongoing season, with two centuries to his name already. If one observes the trend in IPL 2026, CSK manage to clinch a win every time Samson scores over 30 runs and stays unbeaten till the end. And this is where is very different from other big money players.

All four games in which Samson has scored over 30 runs, CSK have emerged victorious. After a poor start to his IPL 2026 campaign, Sanju announced his arrival to CSK in style with an unbeaten 115-run knock. CSK beat DC by 23 runs. Next was a 48-run knock against KKR in which CSK clinched a 32-run win. Then came the unbeaten 87-run knock against DC on Tuesday that powered CSK to an 8-wicket win.

Intrestingly, CSK hopes of winning a game lie at the hands of Samson. For when Sanju has failed to fire with the bat, the team has lost the match. Except on one occasion when captain Ruturaj Gaikwad stepped up and led the side to an 8-wicket win against MI. For multiple seasons in the recent past, CSK have missed someone like Samson who can not only anchor the innings for the side but also knows how to switch gears in a flash and stay till the end to see the team over the line.

With four more games left, Samson could very well have his best-ever IPL season in terms of runs amasssed. He currently has 402 runs at an average of 57.42 and a strike rate of 167.50. His best IPL season came in 2024 where he scored 531 runs from 15 innings.

He has been in quite some form since the T20 World Cup where he was adjudged to Player of the Tournament, and has caried forward his reputation of literally being the match-winner for the team in the IPL 2026 as well. With ove 5000 runs to his name, CSK now have a mature and sensible batter with them in the fom of Samson, which means that they wouldn’t have to worry about finding another such one in the years to come.
