Gujarat Titans players evacuated after bus fire following IPL 2026 final loss to RCB

by · Inside Sport India

It can be noted that all the Gujarat TItans (GT) players are safe after their bus had a short circuit following IPL 2026 final.

The IPL 2026 final ended in disappointment for Gujarat Titans, but their troubles did not stop at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Hours after losing the IPL 2026 final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Gujarat Titans team bus suffered a short circuit while returning from the stadium in Ahmedabad, forcing players and support staff to evacuate immediately.

According to the Times of India, a small fire broke out on the bus due to the electrical fault. Fortunately, all players and team personnel got off safely, and no injuries were reported. However, the squad was left stranded on the roadside for nearly an hour before alternative arrangements could be made. It is a kind of a news that you don’t want to hear but thankfully, nothing major happened.

The incident capped off a miserable evening for the Titans, who had just seen their hopes of winning a second IPL title dashed by a dominant RCB performance.

GT’s difficult IPL journey ends with final defeat

The Titans entered the final hoping to add another trophy to the one they won in their debut season in 2022. Instead, they were outplayed by a clinical RCB side that secured its second consecutive IPL crown.

Batting first at their home ground, Gujarat never really recovered after losing Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan early. Despite a fighting unbeaten half-century from Washington Sundar, GT could only manage 155/8.

RCB’s chase was built around a blistering Powerplay. Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer attacked from the outset, putting the target well within reach. While Iyer smashed 32 off just 16 balls, Kohli anchored the innings with an unbeaten 75 off 42 deliveries as Bengaluru completed a five-wicket win with two overs to spare. It was Gujarat’s third appearance in an IPL final and their second defeat at that stage.

Gruelling week finally catches up with Gujarat Titans

The bus incident came at the end of what had been an exhausting few days for the franchise.

GT’s playoff campaign began with a heavy defeat to RCB in Qualifier 1 at Dharamsala on May 26. They then travelled to Chandigarh before taking on Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 at Mullanpur on May 29.

After overcoming RR to book a place in the final, the Titans faced further disruption when poor weather conditions across north-western India delayed their chartered flight to Ahmedabad by nearly three hours on Saturday.

The delayed arrival also forced organisers to postpone the scheduled captains’ photoshoot featuring Shubman Gill and Rajat Patidar ahead of the final.
