IPL 2025 Final most likely to be shifted from Kolkata to Ahmedabad

by · Inside Sport India

While the final decision on playoffs venues will depend on input from central and state governments, the BCCI is actively exploring safer alternatives.

In what could be one of the many massive changes that have been in store for us regarding the IPL 2025, the tournament final — initially scheduled at Eden Gardens, Kolkata — is now likely to be shifted to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The unprecedented suspension of the IPL 2025 has left the BCCI scratching its head. Courtesy of the high tensions between India and Pakistan, the officials were forced to pause the high-octane tournament for a week. Gladly, the pause didn’t continue as the BCCI announced the return of the tournament from May 17, with RCB and KKR taking on the first fixture after the suspension. However, this has pushed the IPL final, which will now be played on June 3 instead of May 25.

IPL 2025 Final update

Having said that, the primary reason for the potential change of the venue is the forecast of inclement weather in Kolkata around June 3, with weather predicting cloudy skies and possible rainfall. According to various journalists, the BCCI is likely to shift the summit clash from Kolkata to Ahmedabad. As far as the weather conditions are concerned, the Eden Gardens is likely to receive around 65% of precipitation on June 3, the rescheduled date of the final.

BCCI comes up with revised IPL schedule

As per the initial schedule, Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is set to host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator, while Eden Gardens is slated to host Qualifier 2. However, the final may no longer be Kolkata’s to stage. In fact, there are reports that the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will be allowed to host at least one playoff game.

The IPL schedule has been revised, with double headers on Sundays and key matches planned. Teams like Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad won’t play their remaining home games at their usual venues. Delhi will host CSK’s final home game and SRH’s last home game, both teams being out of playoff contention.

Punjab Kings will play their remaining games in Jaipur, including a replay of their abandoned match against Delhi Capitals. Mumbai Indians will play their final home game at Wankhede against Delhi Capitals. Qualifier 1 and Eliminator are set for May 29 and 30, with the second qualifier on June 1.
