Lucknow Super Giants have traded Shardul Thakur to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2026. The Sanjiv Goenka-led franchise bought the Mumbai all-rounder for Rs 2 crore after he went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Earlier on Wednesday, a report claimed that LSG were involved in trade talks with MI for Arjun Tendulkar in exchange for Shardul.
Shardul Thakur trade to MI from LSG confirmed
In a press release, IPL confirmed that Shardul has been traded from LSG to MI for Rs 2 crore. In the IPL 2025 season, in 10 matches he ended up picking 13 wickets at an economy of 11. It still remains to be seen as to which player has MI let gone of in order to accquire the services of Thakur in IPL 2026.
“Lucknow Super Giants all-rounder, Shardul Thakur is all set to represent Mumbai Indians, following a trade between the two franchises. The Mumbai based all-rounder was picked up by the Lucknow Super Giants for INR 2 crore as an injury replacement for the 18th edition of the league, wherein he featured in 10 games,” an IPL press release stated.
Meanwhile, Arjun has spend multiple seasons with MI but has played only 5 matches thus far. The deadline for teams to decide on their retentions before IPL 2026 is November 15. The trade deal between LSG and MI involving Shardul is the first one to be formalised while there are talks about a deal involving Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran between RR and CSK. Meanwhile, DC and LSG are also interested in signing Mohammed Shami from SRH.
Shardul started his IPL career with PBKS in 2015 before moving to RPS in 2017. He then spent four season with CSK until 2021 before moving to DC in 2022. He then played one season for KKR before returning to CSK in 2024 following which he moved to LSG in IPL 2025.
