MI tick all boxes as Rohit Sharma bounces back to form with match-winning 76 from 45

IPL 2025, MI vs CSK: Rohit Sharma's return to form with a formidable 76 from 45, has made Mumbai a force to reckon with.

The MI vs CSK clash could have witnessed the biggest moment in the IPL 2025. Not only the Hardik Pandya-led side won the tournament’s El Classico by 9 wickets on Sunday, but Rohit Sharma scored his first fifty (76 from 45) of the season too. A big one was long due from the ex-MI skipper, who had earlier returned with scores of 26, 18, 13, 8, 0, and was the team’s Achilles Heel.

Rohit Sharma in Form Means Good News for MI

But all that changed quite dramatically for the team, as Rohit Sharma notched his 44th fifty in the IPL, and eighth vs Chennai Super Kings. That performance, in short means, MI have ticked all the boxes for now, and could be well on their way to scripting a turnaround, after starting slowly.

The team now has four wins in 8 matches, and are on sixth spot, and could pose a real threat to the top-4 in GT, DC, RCB and PBKS. What might also worry the other teams, is the kind of form Suryakumar Yadav has shown in the last few games. He did start a lil slow, but then has picked up pace, is their highest run-getter, and a match-changer for them.

Not to Forget Suryakumar Yadav’s Carnage

In the CSK encounter, he just took the bull by the horns, and blazed his way through 30-ball 68, that set the tone for 177-run chase. The total was never going to be enough on the day, but Surya’s innings just shook the confidence of the CSK bowlers. The man now has moved into the fourth spot in the race to orange cap, and in eight games has 321 runs at an average of 53.

Ayush Mhatre, The One for the Future

Chennai bowlers were largely poor with Pathirana leaking 34 in just 1.4 overs, Noor Ahmad 0/36 in his three, Khaleel Ahmed 24 in two, and Jamie Overton 29 in two. On the other hand, earlier in the day, MI bowlers were terrific. Deepak Chahar 1/32, Mitchell Santner 1/14, and Jasprit Bumrah 2/25, took care of the Chennai batting.

But the brightest spot for CSK has to be 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre’s batting. The teenager in his debut match scored 32 from 15, and looked that he belongs at the big stage. Shivam Dube (50) and Ravindra Jadeja (53) too came up with decent scores, but in the end, it hardly counts. The standing in the points table is completely reflective of how they are playing – 10th.
