Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly heaped praise on India’s depth in the batting order at the ICC Champions Trophy. The team’s line-up boasts of at least 8 batters, providing the side with the much-needed depth. Rohit Sharma and co. commenced their CT 2025 campaign on a victorious note by defeating Bangladesh by 4 wickets in Dubai. They will next take on arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday.
“India have five Shubman Gills”
Speaking to PTI, Ganguly claimed that India had five Shubman Gills who could all score centuries and win matches for India. Pointing out at the time when KL Rahul came out to bat against Bangladesh, the ex-Indian skipper noted that there was batting after batting left as Jadeja and Hardik Pandya had not yet wielded their willows. Ganguly further said that India had a house of talent because of the systems in place and the manner in which the game was played.
“India have five Shubman Gills from one, two, three, four, five, six — who can all score hundreds and win matches. When Axar Patel bats at five for India, can you imagine the depth?” Ganguly said

“Won’t be easy for Pakistan”
Speaking on IND vs PAK clash, Ganguly said that India were not only favourites to win the game but also to lift Champions Trophy. He further said that it won’t be easy for Pakistan, adding that spinners would play a crucial role. He noted that Pakistan batters did not play well against spinners and pointed out that India has a quality spin unit.
“India are not just favourites against Pakistan but for me, they are favourites for this tournament. It won’t be easy for Pakistan. The spinners will also play a crucial part. I think India will go with the same combination,” Ganguly added.
