After India lost yet another toss, captain Pant explained that while Shubman was eager to play the IND vs SA 2nd Test, his body didn’t allow it. Providing an update on the captain’s injury, the stand-in skipper said that the former was getting better with time, albeit slowly. Pant vowed that Gill would return to action stronger than before.

Shubman is getting well slowly, slowly. He was very eager to play the match. But at the same time, his body didn’t allow it. He’s going to come back stronger,” Pant said at the toss.

Gill has been released from the squad altogether and will fly to Mumbai for further recovery plans. While he won’t attend physios at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s CoE, Gill will remain in Mumbai for the next few days and will report Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala.

Shubman was admitted to the hospital after Day 2 of the IND vs SA 1st Test after he complained of neck pain following a sweep short attempt. While he watched the game on with a neck brace after retiring hurt, he was eventually hospitalized. Eventually, after spending a couple of days in the hospital, the batter was discharged last Sunday.

While he did travel with the rest of the team to Guwahati on Wednesday, he was subsequently ruled out of the 2nd Test on the eve of the match.
