Jasprit Bumrah gets ‘his bunny’ MS Dhoni once again, CSK captain fails to provide final flourish vs MI

Bumrah had gotten Dhoni out thrice before getting his wicket today at the Wankhede Stadium.

Jasprit Bumrah has once again gotten the better of MS Dhoni. The former is one of the best death bowlers, and the latter is perhaps the greatest finisher in IPL history. Naturally, their battle should be a sight to behold. But it has been anything but. Bumrah already had the wood over Dhoni, but he’s improved his already exemplary record against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain.

Dhoni entered the middle in the 17th over of the match, with 22 balls still left. It was the perfect time for the 43-year-old to explode. Facing Bumrah, Dhoni started cautiously. He tried to nudge the ball around, taking 2 runs from the 3 balls the pacer bowled at him. Basically, he saw him off.

But Bumrah hadn’t bowled his quota. In the 19th over, he got another crack at Dhoni. He bowled a full toss on leg, which the wicketkeeper batter whipped with ease. Ideally, it should have been a six. But Dhoni didn’t smack it hard; instead, he just guided it towards Tilak Varma at deep backward square, who dived forward to claim the catch.

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming had openly stated that Dhoni couldn’t bat for a long period. That’s why he comes as late as possible, with the intent of hitting boundaries from ball one. But doing so against Bumrah can be extremely tough. And Dhoni found that out.
