Not IND vs PAK, Asia Cup should have 3 India vs Sri Lanka matches: Ashwin roasts Pakistan
by Koushik Narayanan · Inside Sport IndiaAshwin claimed that India should rather face Sri Lanka thrice at the Asia Cup instead of Pakistan after the IND vs PAK tie
Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin took a brutal dig at the Pakistan cricket team following their loss to India at Asia Cup 2025. The high-octane IND vs PAK contest was a cakewalk for the Men in Blue as they handed a 7-wicket thrashing to their arch-rivals. Following the game, Ashwin claimed that India vs Pakistan was no longer a tough match for SKY and co. and that facing Sri Lanka could probably be tougher.
Sri Lanka better than Pakistan?
In a video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said that India vs Pakistan wasn’t even the most expected contest in Asia Cup. He suggested that the organisers rather arrange for three India vs Sri Lanka matches as it would be a tighter contest.
“Just like we have dessert after dinner, just like that India have played proper standard T20 cricket after some ice cream against Pakistan, they showed them. Just like I said in the preview, India vs Pakistan is not the most expected match of the Asia Cup. Next time the organisers should look to keep three matches of India vs Sri Lanka instead. I think India against Sri Lanka would be a much more tighter contest,” Ashwin said.
India have sealed a Super 4 spot with a 7-wicket drubbing of Pakistan in a lopsided affair. Chasing 128 to win after restricting Pakistan to 127/9, Abhishek Sharma was off to a flyer, smashing 13-ball 31. While Shubman Gill’s bat remained silent, Suryakumar Yadav scored an unbeaten 47 after Tilak Varma’s 31 to take India through in 15.5 overs. Kuldeep Yadav (3/18), Axar Patel (2/18) and Varun Chakaravarthy 1/24) bowled brilliant spells in the middle overs, choking Pakistan of runs. But Shaheen Afridi’s 16-ball 33 and Hardik Pandya’s 16-run last over took Pakistan to a competitive total.
