Another day, and another record was broken by 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as he helped Rajasthan Royals take a step closer to the IPL 2026 playoffs with a 7-wicket win against LSG. The youngster now has over 500 runs in the IPL 2026 and is the Orange Cap holder. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians – who are already eliminated – have suffered a double blow with two key stars suffering injuries at the fag end of the tournament.

The BCCI has announced the squads for the one-off Test and ODI series against Afghanistan, and while it has not made any surprising decisions, new faces have earned call-ups while the board has decided to rest Jadeja and Bumrah. On that note, let’s take look at the top headlines from Tuesday.

In a major surprise coming the fans’ way, as many as three new players were picked for the Tests — Gurnoor Brar, Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey, while Jadeja was rested along with Bumrah. Prince Yadav earned his maiden ODI call-up. Check out the full squads here.

Sooryavanshi shatters record

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the youngest batter to score over 500 runs in a T20 tournament in the history of the game. The 15-year-old has over 540 runs from just 13 matches, while this is just his second season in the IPL. Before the RR vs LSG game in Jaipur on Tuesday, Sooryavanshi needed just 14 runs to become the youngest player to get 500+ runs in any T20 tournament. The veteran hasn’t featured in a single game this season, having initially suffered a calf injury and then a thumb injury. CSK will face Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Read more here.

Rishabh Pant no longer Test vice-captain

The selectors have decided to name KL Rahul as the vice-captain for the Indian Test team in the one-off game against Afghanistan. The Karnataka wicketkeeper-batter, who has been a regular for India in the longest format of the game, replaces Rishabh Pant in the leadership role. The decision to strip Rishabh of the vice-captaincy role comes after a poor IPL 2026 season for the LSG captain. Read more here.

Double injury blow for MI

MI have lost their two key players — Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa. With two matches still left, that could be a big blow to the team, who are in 9th position on the points table, and will only be playing for pride. While the South African opener suffered a tendon injury in his left wrist, Bawa suffered a ligament tear on his right thumb, in the match against PBKS.
