India squad announced for Asia Cup, Shreyas Iyer & Yashasvi Jaiswal among big absentees

The Team India selectors on Tuesday announced the squad for the Asia Cup 2025, after a rain delay. And as always, a few players in the contention missed out on a spot. There were a lot of expectations that consistent performer in the IPL, Shreyas Iyer would be given a chance, but unfortunately, the PBKS skipper missed out once again.

The others in the India squad, who missed out were Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj and even Prasidh Krishna. At the press conference, chief selector made it clear that neither Yashasvi nor Shreyas Iyer did any wrong, to miss out on spots. He added that the duo will have to just wait for their chances.
Though these players — Iyer, Washi, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag and Jaiswal are part of the reserves, who might not be needed, if no injury concern arises.
Mohammed Siraj Rested?
It is important to look at the performances of the players left out as well. In IPL 2024, Iyer scored 351 runs in 14 matches, while this year, he went on to score 604 in 17. Coming to Yashasvi, this year in 14 encounters he amassed 559 runs and scored six fifties for RR.
Washington Sundar, even though his IPL numbers aren’t the most impressive, but he offers a great balance to the side, as an economical bowler, and a batter who can score quickly lower down the order. Siraj, on the other hand was India’s best bowler in the IND vs ENG Test series, and impressed one and all with his never-say-die attitude.
