PBKS vs DC clash in Dharamsala called off abruptly, decision on IPL on May 9

IPL 2025: The PBKS vs DC match was abruptly stopped after the floodlight towers stopped working.

In what looked like a disruption due to a power failure in the floodlight tower, the PBKS vs. DC clash in Dharamsala was abruptly called off. The match was called off due to security reasons, with Dharamsala only 85 km away from the Pakistan border. BCCI will arrange a special train from Una for the players and support staff, apart from the broadcast crew. A call on IPL 2025 will be taken on May 9 as per BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla. For now, the LSG vs RCB match in Lucknow will go on as per schedule, confirmed IPL chairman Arun Dhumal.

“We are organising a special train from close to Dharamsala to bring everybody home safely. As of now the match has been called off and the stadium has been evacuated. We will take a call on the tournament’s future depending on the situation tomorrow. As of now, players’ safety is of the utmost importance. The match couldn’t have continued tonight because of the situation. It wasn’t safe,” BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told Times of India.

PBKS vs DC Called OFF

PBKS vs DC match started an hour late due to rain, and there was further disruption caused. The incident happened in the 11th over of the Punjab innings, just when opener Priyansh Arya was dismissed, and both teams had to head back to the dressing rooms briefly.

A BCCI statement read, “The Punjab Kings v Delhi Capitals match (Match#58) in Tata IPL was forced to be abandoned due to a significant technical failure at the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala. Due to a power outage in the area, one of the light towers at the HPCA stadium malfunctioned. BCCI regrets the inconvenience caused to the in-stadium attendees.”

As it happened

Meanwhile, it is important to note that the next match for PBKS, vs MI at the same venue, has been shifted to Ahmedabad due to logistical challenges. As far as the PBKS vs DC clash is concerned, in 10.1 overs, after opting to bat first, Punjab scored 122/1 with Priyansh Arya being the aggressor and scoring 70 from just 34 deliveries.

On the other hand, Prabhsimran Singh was in his element too, as he scored 50 from 28 deliveries only, becoming the first uncapped player in the history of IPL to slam four back-to-back fifties.
