Sanju Samson surpasses Shane Warne to become Rajasthan Royals’ most successful captain with the most wins in IPL history.

Sanju Samson surpassed Shane Warne to become the most successful captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 during the game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday at the Mullanpur Stadium.

Sanju Samson took over as captain of the Rajasthan Royals in the 2021 season, and by the 2025 edition, he has emerged as the most successful skipper in the franchise’s history.

Most matches as captain for RR

With 32 wins in 62 matches as captain, Samson has surpassed the legendary Shane Warne, who led RR to 31 victories in 55 games. Coming in third is current head coach Rahul Dravid, under whose leadership the Royals secured 18 wins in 34 matches. Following them are Steve Smith and Ajinkya Rahane, with 15 and 9 wins respectively as captains.

RR defeat PBKS

Rajasthan Royals’ 50-run triumph over Punjab Kings marked their second-largest victory against the side, once again highlighting the impact of Sanju Samson’s leadership on the team’s fortunes. The win also secured RR’s second victory of the season, while handing Punjab Kings their first defeat.

Sanju Samson contributed a solid 38-run knock at the top, and with Yashasvi Jaiswal registering his first half-century of the season, RR became the first team to post a 200+ total at the Mullanpur venue.
