Mohammed Kudus has become the centre of a storm after some West Ham fans brutally turned on him, comparing his summer move to Tottenham Hotspur with the betrayal of Judas Iscariot.

Just as Judas’ act remains one of the most notorious stories of disloyalty in the Bible, a section of Hammers' faithful now see Kudus’ transfer across London in the same unforgivable light.

Why West Ham fans have turned on Kudus

Kudus sealed a £55 million switch from East to North London after an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign.

The Ghanaian managed only five goals and three assists in the Premier League, a sharp dip from his impressive debut year, when he produced eight goals and nine assists, according to Transfermarkt.

Many supporters felt he lacked spark and drive last season, appearing distant on the pitch. So when Tottenham came knocking, West Ham wasted no time cashing in.

Deputy chair Karren Brady admitted finances played a part in the decision, but also noted the midfielder failed to hit the heights expected of him, per talkSPORT.

For many in East London, the sight of Kudus flourishing in white has cut deep.

Some supporters unfurled a banner branding him “Judus”, a cruel twist on his name, which quickly spread on social media.

This isn’t the first time emotions have boiled over. A section of fans previously burned his replica No.14 shirt to show their outrage at his departure.

How has Kudus performed since joining Tottenham

Since joining Tottenham, Kudus has looked revitalised. He impressed on debut in the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain and followed it up with a dazzling display against Burnley in the Premier League opener.

The 25-year-old set up both of Richarlison’s goals, instantly winning over Spurs supporters and showing signs of a dangerous partnership.

While Kudus enjoyed a flying start at Spurs, West Ham suffered a miserable opening weekend, falling 3-0 to newly promoted Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, as noted by Sky Sports.

The timing only added salt to their wounds, making his absence feel even more painful.

The real drama, however, is still to come. Tottenham will visit the London Stadium in match week four, setting the stage for Kudus’ first return to his old home.

How the Hammers faithful will welcome him back remains to be seen, but judging by recent events, the reunion will be anything but friendly.

Fans feel betrayed as tempers rise

Emotions are running high in East London, where some West Ham supporters feel completely let down by Mohammed Kudus.

Many argue that moving to a direct rival shows a lack of loyalty, especially after a season where they felt he wasn’t giving his all in a claret and blue shirt. From angry social media posts to a banner calling him “Judus”, the reaction has been fierce.

For a section of the fanbase, this was not just a normal transfer, it was a personal wound, made even worse by the way Kudus has immediately flourished in North London. Some fans have even vowed to boo him with every touch when Tottenham return to the London Stadium next month.

Others say that celebrating a goal against his former side would only deepen the rift and completely close the door on any future forgiveness. Many believe this upcoming clash will be one of the most emotional fixtures of the season, and some supporters have already labelled it “the real derby” because of the added tension.

Only time will tell whether anger turns to respect or grows even louder.
